About
1. I strongly believe everyone is capable of change, no matter the age, and that counselling provides the non-judgmental, safe space where warmth, openness, trust, empathy, can help foster such change.
2. Counselling is not so much a job as a calling for me. It was clear from the onset that I wanted to specialise in supporting people with life-threatening conditions and their loved ones. The name and logo for my practice came all the way from Louisiana: the lotus flower was the first to raise its head from the devastation of hurricane Katrina; it became a symbol of resilience. This story was passed on to me by another counsellor, also trained in EMDR and will always remain very special to me.
3. My initial training is integrative, and grounded in Person-Centred therapy and Choice theory (a branch of CBT), along with Existential psychotherapy. While empathic listening is core in my practice, this blended approach enables me to tailor and adapt therapy to individual needs. I further trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) which is advocated by the WHO to help people experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
4. I first started counselling in 2012, and made it my full time career in 2015. I now have over 7 years’ experience in cancer support and in general counselling as part of my private practice. ‘I have worked as a counsellor and a facilitator for ARC Cancer Support in Dublin since 2015. I worked for SECHC, a cancer support charity in Greater South London till 2022 and for the Irish Cancer Society, as part of their only counselling panel since 2020. I am also part of Cancer Counselling London.
5. I am a member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP); of the European Association for Counselling (EAC); of the EMDR Association UK & Ireland. I am also a member of the Irish Psycho-social Oncology Network (IPSON).
I am fully insured (PPS).
6. People can really grow from challenging times and change their lives.
7. I trained with the Institute of Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (IICP) and with EMDR Masterclass Trainings, TMR Health Professionals and Training Ltd.
