FAQs
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
If you need to cancel your appointment due to illness or to an emergency, please let me know at least three days in advance if at all possible for face-to-face, as most centres require a 72 hours’ notice for room cancellations. 48 hours' notice is required for remote counselling, to enable me to offer the slot to someone else.
WHAT IS YOUR CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY?
All counselling is confidential. There are however some limits to confidentiality. These include:
- Examining my work in clinical supervision. The aim of this is to monitor and improve clinical work undertaken. All supervision is done on a confidential basis and the client’s name is never use.
- If I the counsellor evaluate that the client is a danger to self, others, or the counsellor.
- A disclosure of abuse, emotional or physical, involving a minor (under 18 years).
HOW LONG IS A SESSION?
Each talk therapy session lasts 50 minutes. It is advised to book two consecutive slots for EMDR as this technique requires longer sessions when possible.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
It is often recommended to attend a minimum of six sessions of counselling to benefit from the process, yet the number of sessions you require depends on your individual needs and the complexity of the issues disclosed. You are ultimately the best judge and will quite likely know when you feel ready to finish counselling.
EMDR can require as little as two sessions if you want to work on one specific memory and have not undergone other major trauma in your life. Multiple/complex trauma usually necessitates more sessions to clear.

HOW FREQUENTLY WILL I NEED A SESSION?
While a weekly session is often recommended at the initial stages, some people do well with a session every other week, or every three weeks. Of course this depends a lot on the issue the person presents with and on levels of psychological distress.
Momentum is very important for EMDR and I would strongly recommend to ensure you are available to meet weekly for at least a month, knowing that if you want to work on one specific trauma and have not undergone other major painful events in your life, you could need as little as two sessions.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE FIRST SESSION?
I will go through confidentiality and limitations to confidentiality with you, will explain the therapeutic process to you, go through ‘housekeeping’ matters and give you space to ask questions. Following this I will ask you more about your reasons for seeking therapy.
The same applies with EMDR if you are not already in therapy with me, with the added piece that EMDR requires undergoing a screening process, including for instance filling out a questionnaire to evaluate the level of trauma experienced before the age of 18.

WHAT ARE YOUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES?
I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, meaning I blend approaches to best suit individual needs. My practice is anchored in Person-Centred Therapy, Existential Therapy, as people strive for a meaningful existence, and Choice Theory (a branch of CBT). I also use EMDR in my practice when people need to clear trauma or debilitating anxieties from their lives.
DO I NEED THERAPY?
Many people go through hardship in life without needing to talk to someone outside the situation. It much depends on other supports available to you, on your own inner resources and on the nature of the issue(s). If you choose to try therapy, you will know after a couple of sessions whether it is helping or not and whether your counsellor is a good personality match for you.
WILL YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?
Counsellors and psychotherapists don’t have a medical background and as such don’t prescribe any medication.
WHICH LANGUAGES DO YOU SPEAK?
I conduct therapy in either English or French.
WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?
I don’t currently accept card payments, but will accept cash and bank transfers (bank transfers are payable ahead of the session).
